  Risk Communication and Crisis Management

News headlines frequently pronounce public fears during chemical releases or vapor cloud explosions. Responding to those fears and delivering messages about potential threat is an important issue for companies storing, handling, and processing hazardous materials.

Risk Communication has never been more important. With the recent enactment of the Chemical Safety Information, Site Security, and Fuels Regulatory Relief Act (S. 880), public meetings are required before February 2, 2000. These meetings discuss the contents of your Risk Management Plan required under EPA's Accidental Release Prevention Program (RMP), including the worst-case hazard assessment results. For information about how AcuTech can assist facilities at these public meetings, please contact AcuTech at the links below.

AcuTech assists in properly characterizing the risk results and in the development of strategies to explain to management and the public the levels of risk they are facing without instilling fear or appearing to stonewall the issues. Whether after an accident, or as part of an ongoing community involvement program, AcuTech:

  • Explains the fundamentals of risk communication
  • Shows how to manage and succeed with the media
  • Present risk estimates
In partnership with Kamer-Singer & Associates, a leading San Francisco public relations firm, AcuTech can provide the technical expertise to understand and simplify "the numbers" and the professional public relations expertise that companies need.
