AcuTech Consulting, Inc. is
proud to announce its participation in the Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) International Conference
and Workshop on Modeling the Consequences of Accidental Releases of Hazardous Materials, September 28-October 1
at the Grand Hyatt San Francisco.
The 1999 Conference marks AcuTechs debut as a sponsor of the
prestigious chemical process safety organization. The conference features leading industrial, academic, and
regulatory experts presenting new developments in modeling techniques for the prediction of dispersion of accidental
releases. The CCPS conference includes sessions focusing on regulatory issues and the communication of release
scenarios to involved third parties.
AcuTech President and CEO David Moore is participating in a
workshop co-chaired by Craig Matthiessen of the US Environmental Protection Agency and Mark S. Dreux, of
McDermott, Will and Emery.
Workshop: Regulatory Issues
Title: A Comparison of
International Regulations Requiring Consequence Modeling of Hazardous Materials
Abstract:The EPA RMP
regulation requirement for an offsite consequence analysis was a precedent-setting rule for U.S. companies.
Other governments have either preceded this rule or plan to model similar requirements after these requirements.
For example, the UK and EEC countries had modeling requirements prior to 40 CFR Part 68, and Malaysia and
South Korea have developed regulations since their introduction. For global companies or for companies working
in these countries, it is useful to both know the basis for the requirements, the parameters they need to
comply with, and the future direction of this issue worldwide.
This paper will provide a review of
international regulations that require offsite consequence analysis of hazardous materials, the models required
or allowed, and the modeling assumptions required or allowed. A comparison of RMP OCA versus other perspectives
and the benefits and drawbacks of all approaches will be included.
The regulatory issue workshop
focuses on case studies applying dispersion modeling to meet U.S. and international regulations.
In
addition to Mr. Moores contribution to the workshop, AcuTech is exhibiting at CCPS, as well as hosting a
hospitality reception on Wednesday, September 29 to celebrate our new membership in CCPS. AcuTechs reception
is from 5:30pm-8:30pm in the Potrero Room on the theatre level in the Grand Hyatt. Please join us to help make the
1999 CCPS conference a success.
