AcuTech Conducts QRA of Fire Protection Systems in Asia

A major offshore operator in Asia contracted AcuTech to answer a complex and challenging question - is a $30 million USD investment over the next 20 years for fire deluge systems on unmanned offshore platforms justified?

AcuTech assisted management in this difficult decision by conducting a complete QRA including:

• an offshore survey,
• an analysis of past incidents,
• an international safety standards and regulations review,
• a hazard analysis,
• an event tree analysis,
• a cost benefit analysis,
• and a risk assessment.

AcuTech contrasted the options of various levels of protection against the risk reduction and the cost-benefit of equipment damage and business interruption. The expected frequency of life loss and injury was estimated for each alternative. AcuTech guided management in the risk-based decision.

The project manager for the client remarked, The insight gained from this project allowed the company to better understand their risks and to clarify the value of the fire protection systems under different options such that management could make a more informed decision.
